All State of Missouri Sex Offenders Must Register (July 6, 2009)

According to, “A recent Missouri Supreme Court ruling will require all sex offenders in Missouri, regardless of when or where the offense occurred, to register with the state sex offender registry. Missouri has maintained a public registry since Jan. 1, 1995, and although it was originally retroactive to offenses committed since 1979, a Missouri Supreme Court ruling in 2006 only required offenders as of Jan. 1, 1995, to register.“

This ruling will allow employers that conduct Sex Offender Searches as part of their background check procedures to have a more comprehensive look at the state’s database.

Missouri Attorney General, Chris Koster says that he is pleased with the court’s ruling and that, “Parents and communities deserve to know when sex offenders live nearby, no matter when the offender committed the offense.”
