I don't understand why my financial problems are of such great importance for a potential employer. I think, it is evident, if you want to solve your financial problems, you will have to look for a better job. Besides, there are so many cases when people get into financial troubles just because of personal problems but not because of irresponsibility. So, I think, employers have no power to check our credit accounts!

I am in total agreement, I am a single mother with two children and have had some very difficult financial times over the past years. I was laid off my most recent position 4 months ago and cannot find solid employment due to adverse credit. I have been asked several times to come back on second interviews and when the time comes to process the background check along with credit check, (dead silence) I never hear from the company again. I have no criminal background and I am being treated like a criminal due to bad credit. I have never had a problem until this year, I have worked in payroll for many years and have never posed a risk to my employers, while I would certainly ask for a raise if I wanted more money, I would never steal from anyone. While I have been an excellent employee, I don't understand why my credit determines my capabilities as an employee. This SUCKS.

To all who have worked so hard to make it too difficult to find work. I don't think you have give any consideration as to the effect of keeping people out of work does to our families and communities. Have you given any thought about the people who are going without medical and car insurance. What will you say to the children who have lost loved ones when they can't get the help they meed.
I am sure keeping people out of work for adverse credit benefits someone's bottom line and its not about credit at all!! And all these forclosures and bankruptcies are you planning to keep them unemployed too?

I agree also, I live in Michigan, where the economy has been slipping for two solid years, leading to one solid year of late payments or no payments, I have no criminal background, and I cannot get a job either. And the law protects any employer from really telling me this. Now that I'm laid off things are only getting worse. It should be illegal to do a credit check on someone unless your getting a job at a bank, or mortgage company. I wish there was something I could do. I do not have a college education. What am I supposed to do.

I was recently denided employment due to credit report. The recruiter said that it spoke to my character and the I was more likely to steal. That is a load of crap! I have no criminal behavior in my background. I was a victim of idenity theft. I was told that I should hire an attorney to clean up my credit report. How can I afford an attorney when I can't get a job?

I was separated that I had better employ a lawyer to clean up my reference report. How can I give a lawyer when I can not become a job?

Te part that pisses me of is, I am aplying for a job for technical support. Which by no means, requires any credit card pmts. Everything is looking good but they are waiting for my credit report to come back. They stated tht I cannot have more than 4 negatives on my report and if so, my application will be denied. This is an outrage. My credit was ruined after I lost my job because of car troubles. I just do not get it. I feel like a criminal.
All these years i have "flown straight" and for what??--to be treated like a drug abuser who robs cheats and steal, with a criminal record.
I will find a way, to try to put a stop to this non sense. Because most middle class to lower class all have dings on their credit that they would love to clean up...ESPECIALLY MEDICAL BILLS AND STUDENT LOANS. I'm going to make sure that I find a way to stop this madness. My children need to be fed too. Not just those whose income surpasses 60,000pr yr!
    STOP THE MADNESS!

I relocated to MI last year and left an 11 year career as an office manager. Prior to that I was a banking supervisor for 20 yrs. I maintained impeccable credit all of my life ... until this year. I have been unable to become employed in MI despite hundreds of applications and many many interviews. Because of not being employed, my credit has taken a serious nose dive. Every application I fill out asks for persmission to do a consumer report regardless of the type of job it is. I have been honest upfront with potential employers and then they just find another reason to not hire me.
How does one get out from under bad credit caused by unemployment when they can't be hired because of the bad credit? I resent the intrusion into my privacy and find it unfair that we can't find out what potential employers do indeed look at our credit history.
Being a former manager, I know there are good honest people out there looking for work who fell on bad times. With the influx of applicants now they can, unfortunately, choose not to make exceptions.
Given the extent of financial problems in this country right now, I believe this law should be abolished. If someone is a thief it will show up in their background check or references from other employers.
I find this practice an intrusion of my privacy and very discrimanatory.
